Once you have decided to commission a memorial painting you need to choose an artist. My name is John Gilluly and I completed my first memorial painting in 1972. Additional examples of my work may be viewed on my main website, www.GillulyFineArt.com. My pointillism technique creates a natural texture which is enhanced by the addition of cremains to the paint.
For memorial paintings I will work exclusively from photographs supplied by the client. Although we will most likely work from one primary image, multiple photographs are
preferred to allow me a better visual understanding of the subject. Sepia toned paintings can be done from old photographs. Copyrighted photos, such as professional wedding shots would require the permission of the photographer whenever possible.
My fee is proportional to the size of the canvas, based on $600 per square foot. A 16”x20” canvas would be $1,300, an 18”x24” canvas would be $1,800 and a 24”x36” canvas would be $3,600. A down payment of fifty percent is required with the contract, photo(s) and cremains. The completed painting will be shipped unframed, allowing you
to choose a frame which will optimize the artwork in the setting in which it will be viewed.
The whole process will require six to ten weeks. An estimated due date will be specified in the contract. |
